Highlander is a 1986 fantasy action-adventure film directed by Russell Mulcahy and starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, and Roxanne Hart. The film chronicles the climax of an ages-old battle among immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present-day storylines.
Connor MacLeod was a 16th century Scottish Highlander, who thought his life would be normal – marriage, fighting, and eventually death. After he recovers from a fatal wound and is outcast, he learns that he is of the Immortals, gifted with magical healing and long life, but cursed to be hunted by his fellow Immortals. He can only die by decapitation, and the Immortals endlessly battle through the centuries, for the last Immortal shall inherit the Prize: vast knowledge and the ability to enslave the entire human race. In the end, there can be only one.
Highlander became a cult film and inspired film sequels and television spin-offs. It is remembered for the flashy cinematography, the haunted performance by Christopher Lambert and the vicious Kurgan played by Clancy Brown, and the songs provided for the film by the rock band Queen. There have been five Highlander films, two live-action television series, an animated television series, an animated film, a flash animation series, ten original novels, nineteen comic book issues, and various licensed merchandise.
